Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the weather service used by our Garmin watch faces handles data. It applies only to the weather feature; the watch faces themselves do not collect or transmit any other personal data.

When is data sent to our servers?

Data is sent to our servers only when the watch face is configured to display a weather (OpenWeather) widget. In that case, the watch sends the geographic coordinates of the device to our servers so the weather can be fetched from OpenWeather on your behalf:

• if you have not saved your own OpenWeather API key in the watch face settings, a shared (general) API key is used;
• if you have saved your own API key, the request is made with your key (see below).

If weather display is disabled, nothing is ever sent.

What data is sent?

Only geographic coordinates (latitude, longitude and, where available, altitude) are sent — that is all the service needs to return the weather. The watch does not send any device identifier, serial number, Garmin account information, name, email address or any other data from the watch. For this reason, requests cannot be linked to your device or to you as a person.

As with any internet service, our server technically receives the IP address of the connecting network and standard HTTP metadata. These are kept only in short-lived technical logs used for rate limiting, abuse prevention and troubleshooting, and are not used to identify or profile users.

What happens to the coordinates?

• The coordinates are forwarded to OpenWeather to retrieve the current weather. Their processing is described in the OpenWeather privacy policy.
• To reduce the number of requests, weather responses are cached on our servers for a short time (up to one hour) using coordinates rounded to a coarse grid (roughly 1–10 km). The cache contains only weather data per area, nothing user-specific.

If you use your own OpenWeather API key

If you save your own API key in the watch face settings, the coordinates are still sent to our servers together with your key, and the weather is fetched from OpenWeather using your key instead of the shared one. Your key is used only to fetch the weather for the coordinates in that request and is never stored on our servers.

What we do not do

• We do not collect names, emails, accounts or device identifiers.
• We do not use cookies, analytics or advertising in the weather service.
• We do not sell or share data with any third party other than OpenWeather, as described above.
